A Christmas Gift that Lasts: Legacy Letter

There’s a great deal of skill in choosing the perfect Christmas gift: one that makes your loved one feel seen and celebrated.

If you’re still searching for a gift that will last, a Legacy Letter might be the answer.

A Legacy Letter is your chance to express your love, share your values, capture your life lessons, and share your hopes for your family members.

As a subscriber to this newsletter, you’re invited to use The Signatry’s limited-time free access to Blake Brewer’s step-by-step masterclass on writing a Legacy Letter that your family will cherish.

Blake created the template after his own father’s letter to him became a lifeline after a tragic accident. “The words in this letter were exactly what I needed at that time in my life and, 19 years later, his words and his voice are still leading and guiding me.”

Wake Up Dead Man and Our True Inheritance

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of watching Wake Up Dead Man, Rian Johnson’s new installment in the Knives Out series, I think you’ll enjoy its complex exploration of faith and Christ’s power—it surprised me as a mainstream film. But I also want to draw attention to a secondary theme: Christlike stewardship.

As in many great murder mysteries, enormous wealth is on the line. It would be easy for a story seeking “a Christian take on wealth” to depict wealth as the great corrupter and asceticism as the redemptive alternative.

But this movie, in keeping with its other refreshingly orthodox Christian perspectives, doesn’t allow that simple answer to get in the way of the truth. It’s not wealth that corrupts, but pride. It’s not a vow of poverty that saves, but devotion to Christ. Our main character, a young priest desperate to share the healing power of Jesus, demonstrates exactly how keeping Christ first allows other goals—good goals—to order themselves naturally below our ultimate love.

To avoid any spoilers, I’ll leave it there for now. It’s certainly not a movie to watch with kids, but I’d recommend Wake Up Dead Man for a lot of reasons; this encouraging peek into godly stewardship is just one.

Book Review: Stewards, Not Owners

Should Christians seek money?

What’s the difference between saving and hoarding?

Is there a palatable way to talk about money with your friends?

Our team recently ran across this review of the book Stewards, Not Owners, by Dana and Bill Wichterman. The book draws practical lessons on making and stewarding money from successful families who have done just that.

“Until a month ago, I believed true Christians shouldn’t seek money,” the reviewer begins. Stewards, Not Owners changed that.

4 Ways to Celebrate Boxing Day

Boxing Day Blog Image

You may have heard that December 26 is called Boxing Day because it’s the day we throw out all the empty boxes left over from Christmas.

The history of Boxing Day is actually a bit of a mystery, but it probably finds its origins in acts of service and generosity. Various sources suggest Boxing Day traces back to:

  • A day of rest for the servants of wealthy families, when employers would send their staff home with a “Christmas box” of gifts or money.
  • The collection boxes inside churches, which were often distributed to the poor on the day after Christmas.
  • A special offering for the poor, collected on December 26 in celebration of St. Stephen’s Day.

This December 26 could be the perfect time for your family to step into some old Christian traditions.

For example, try tipping generously. If you go out to eat, order food or groceries, or do anything where you would usually leave a tip, give an extra thank-you to the people who serve you on the day after Christmas (or the whole week!).
